
University of Technology is inviting applications
for international research scholarships (IRS) to
eligible candidates who demonstrate exceptional
research potential. The UTS IRS only covers the
tuition fees for a period of two years for a
Research Masters degree or three years for a
Research Doctorate degree. The maximum value
of an IRS in a year is equal to the estimated
annual tuition fee, as specified in the
Commonwealth Register of Institutions and
Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) for the
HDR being undertaken by the student. The
application deadline is 20 August 2015.

Eligibility: To be eligible for an IRS, a student
must:
-be an overseas student as defined in the Higher
Education Support Act 2003 (Cth); and
-purchase and maintain a standard OSHC policy
approved by the Commonwealth Government
Department of Health and Ageing (DOHA); and
-be commencing full-time enrollment for the first-
time in a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) at an
eligible scholarship provider (such as the
University. The provider may also consider
students who: commenced their HDR in the
previous year but who, due to the timing of their
application and subsequent enrolment, were
unable to apply for the scholarship in that year;
or commenced a HDR and terminated that
enrollment within six months of commencement;
or are nominated by their Faculty/Institute for
strategic reasons related to their research
project; or have been approved for a course
transfer to a different Faculty/Institute; and
be enrolled as a full-time student; and
-be undertaking study in a subject area identified
by the University as one of its areas of research
concentration; and -not have completed a degree
at the same or higher level as the proposed
candidature; and
-not be receiving a scholarship for which course
tuition is a component under any other
scholarship scheme.

Scholarship Description : The UTS International
Research Scholarship (UTS IRS) is provided by
the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) as
part of its long term commitment to
internationalisation with a particular view to
enhancing its international links and profile in
research. It is aimed at attracting high quality
international students to work in areas of
research strength.
Number of award(s): Each year, UTS offers up to
60 IRS to eligible candidates who demonstrate
exceptional research potential.
Duration of award(s): The UTS IRS only covers
the tuition fees for a period of two years for a
Research Masters degree or three years for a
Research Doctorate degree. The University may
consider extending the duration of an IRS for a
research doctorate student of up to six months
provided the student is making satisfactory
progress and the grounds for the extension
relate to the study and are beyond the control of
the student.
What does it cover? The IRS only covers tuition
fees under a doctoral or masters degree by
research. It does not provide for the cost of
standard Overseas Health Cover (OSHC), living
allowance, travel, conference attendance, medical
costs associated with the issue or renewal of a
student visa, thesis expenses, the cost of English
language testing, tuition fees for bridging English
language courses, or costs associated with
study-related field trips. The IRS scholarship is
not transferable to another institution. The
maximum value of an IRS in a year is equal to
the estimated annual tuition fee, as specified in
the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and
Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS), for the
HDR being undertaken by the student.

submit their completed application, including all
