1.      Do not put all eggs in one basket.

 Most of the problems we keep on having every time is trying to get admission in a particular school of your choice.
Try not to do that. Why do we have federal university, state university, polytechnics and collages of education? It is because, every bodies capability is not the same, some are capable of entering federal university, some state university, some polytechnic and some collages of education. If one keep on trying a particular school which he/she is not capable of, the person may end up wasting 4 years to 5 years (or even more) and at last choose any of those rejected one. This has happen to many people.  If all the university is federal, you will find out that some people will never enter it no matter how they try and vice verse. So as you have finished your Jamb and you scored 180 and above, try to buy post utme of federal university, state university polytechnic and collage of education if possible. You never know the one that will click for you. I have seen some people that attended polytechnic and collages of education and are doing well on some companies.

2. Look (Search) For University That Does Well In Your Course Before Buying The Form

Some universities are specialized in some major courses. Some are Agricultural school, some law school, technical school, etc while some can do all of them. Try finding the one that are good in your course. Imagine someone that wants to be an engineer and is applying for admission in agricultural school, or other schools that are not equipped with engineering equipments, what will you call such person? Let's be wise and ask question well before buying any of the post utme form. It is not a matter of school you like, it is a matter of what they can learn from the school. So look for university(ies) good at your course of study.

3. Look for every relevant information

By information, I mean gathering all the equipments (books, past questions, advice etc) from the people studying in the university you intend to study or people that have studied there or even your elder. Some universities are good at setting questions from a particular book, some of are good at repeating question from the past questions, and some are good at setting new questions every year. Imagine a person going to Aba but unknown to him that he is following the road leading to Lagos. What will you call such a person?. That is as a result of lack of information. It is said that "He who don't know and knows that he don't know and does not want to know is a FOOL. But he who don't know, knows that he don't know and wants to know is a WISE MAN".  Don’t miss studying the real thing for the unimportant/less important ones. So gather the relevant materials(or info) necessary for your success in this post utme. Nothing is as worse as a missed information. It's not only about jacking(Reading) but also information. Don’t think that you are intelligent and because of that, you don’t need to ask somebody. Also, try to look at the past questions of the school you want to write post utme exam in. This will help you to know the format (or technique) for their post utme exam. Heed any information especially repetitive ones.

4. Be you

There are some people that wants to be a medical doctor but along the way turn to becoming a lawyer. How can that be possible? Don’t let this be your portion. Be you. It is believed that anybody that have passed from nursery school through secondary school must have come up with a course to study in the higher institution. Don’t study engineering because your friends are doing so, don’t do it because your father said it or want you to do it, don’t do it because they are mostly employed, don’t do it because everybody is doing it. Do it because it is your talent, do it because you like it, it gives you joy, you have compassion for it and that you long after it. Even if not that particular course, do the one related to it. You may face the choice of looking for a course to shop into probably because you did not reach the cut off marks of your choice course. Just look for a course related to your own course and shop into that one. I once heard a story of a girl that wanted to do(study) fine art but her parents wants her to be a medical doctor. She tried convincing them to allowing her to study fine art but all to no avail. She later accepted it and wrote jamb, screening, passed and enter school to study medicine. When she entered the school, she neglected that admission and start preparing for another jamb for the following  year to study fine art without her parents notice. Her parents thought that their daughter is studying medicine in the university without knowing that their daughter has another plan. After the one year, she wrote another jamb, passed it, post utme, passed it and gain admission into fine art without her parents knowing. It happened that the girl studied fine art and graduated in the course with first class. During graduation, did their parents know that what their daughter studied. She later travelled to abroad and got a Job there. Her parents are later saying the "We are proud of you". What would have happened if she heeded to her parents intention? If you find yourself in any course you don’t have knowledge of and you can't cope with, just re-write another jamb and go into the right one. It is better waiting for a year and re-writing jamb than studying a course that is abstract to your own course. You may graduate with Pass or 3rd class if possible after spending years in the university. Your parents/elders can advice you,  but not forcing you to do a particular course. It will not only limit their expectations from you but will kill your potentials. There are so many people in the university with many carry-over because of their wrong choice. It is always good to look for council or help when faced with so many choices.

5. Study Your Books Like Never Before

This is very vital thing you ought to do. There is nothing like studying your book like never before  especially when you face examination like this one. If not Sleeping from now to the when you will write the exam will make you successful, stop sleeping till after the exam(s). Reading is very sweet, I don’t know if you have observed it. The different between Mr A and Mr B is their content which is a result of their reading habit. Make reading your daily routine. Reading your books will not only help you in this post-utme(screening) exam but will also help you throughout your stay in the university. Some people kill(suppress) their talent because of their un-seriousness towards reading their books. After gathering the relevant materials for this post-utme, read all of them page by page and line by line. This will boost your performance in the exam. If you don’t study, you won't pass, it is certain. Bible said in 2 Timothy to “study to show thyself approved …” (KJV). If you want to be approved, there is need to study. Don't rely on Examination Malpractice- that is worse. Work on yourself. Without reading, you are wasting your time, energy and money. The bible did not said that you should study the bible only, it said “study” which comprises of everything (book, bible and other inspirational books). We should know that God don’t help people that don’t help themselves. You can only help yourself by reading.

 There is every need to study our books all the times especially during examination like this. Read your books and you will see yourself in your desired course and in desired institution.

6. Be spiritual

Another point worthy of note is a matter of being spiritual. Without God, you can do nothing but with him, everything is possible (Luke 1:37). If you leave God as you are preparing for this exam, you have left everything. Prayer is very mostly important in a time like this. Everything seen or manifested in the physical is controlled by a much stronger controller, which is the spiritual aspect that in turn is controlled by a supreme being or a supernatural force (God). Whichever you want to call it. One way to engage this supreme being to help you is through prayer.

7. Believe in yourself.

Finally, my dear, believe in yourself, be confident that you can make it. You can do all things through Christ that strengthens you (Philipians 3:11). You are not a failure, you are not made to fail. Accept that success is your portion. Been confidence drives boldness, which gives you edge to face any challenges or competition. Micheal Korda put it that “in order to succeed, we must first believe that we can” and Mary O’Hare Dumas puts it that “confidence is the hinge on the door to success”.
